Light is the essence of things, I believe, so I make photographs and try to understand what light reveals. I am reading Emerson and Thoreau and I see them both as men of great wisdom — American Prophets perhaps. I was a Baha’i and still see value in what Baha’ullah taught but no longer think organized religion of the old school is of use for me. So If I find some good light I will try to share it here.My ongoing project is to document the conservation land, open space and natural world of Westford Massachusetts, the town I live in. I’m on the Board of our Conservation Trust, I’m also a Conservation Commissioner, and have for the last three years designed and managed the production of a calendar for the Trust that features images of our conservation land. The town is trying to decide how much growth is good. I hope my images help people understand what is at stake.

I stumbled onto your website while looking for Strawberry Festival Info and having spent my summers in Westford, MA as a child, I checked out your site. You have some beautiful photos. I also checked out your daughters site (robin troy) and really like some of her pieces. Does dhe havea place where people can buy some of her work? I couldn’t find an6y e-mail addy to contact her directly, so I thought I’d go through her Dad. If you could forward this to her, I’d really appreciate it! thanks~Kristin

Really loved the site! We are interested in photographing blue herons
in Westford. Are there one or two areas you could recommend to us?
Thank you - we plan on going there on Sunday, July 15th.

Hello Linda,
Thanks for your comment and question — I’m glad you like my blog!
Herons show up wherever there is water in Westford but I’ve seen them most often on Stony Brook in East Boston Camps — usually not far from the railroad tracks and bridge. I’ve also seen them in Acker conservation land also on Stony Brook and on the Grassy Pond. The photo of a heron on my website was taken in Shipley Swamp which is at the western edge of Nabnasset Lake by the Lakeside Meadows housing development.
If you get on the Westford Conservation Trust’s web site (www.westfordconservationtrust.org) you can access maps of these places. If you have more questions please email me at fwinters@verizon.net,
Cheers,
Frank

hi, i am impressed by your blog, and your sentiments. i currently live in santa cruz, california, and i am considering moving to westford.
i am a tree-hugger and mountain biker and trail runner and nature enthusiast. your website has given me a good deal of optimism about the area.
i am asking for your advice. would a 48-year-old single man find peace in your part of the world? from your photographs, i would say yes. but there is little other evidence. what i really want to do is escape the crowds of california.
thanks

Frank,
I noticed you posted in the Shutter Point forum late last year about purchasing a Canon G9. Did you? I was wondering about using the Gp and a telephoto lens for photographing big game.
I’m a very amateur photographer and am looking for the right entry camera for that purpose.
Thanks—-
