Skunk Cabbage in January

Here is a photo of something that is not normal. Skunk cabbage is the first sign of life in the woods, in swampy, wet areas — in the early spring or late winter. March not January 5th when this was taken.

I took this in Acker conservation land in westford Massachusetts. It was 63 in Boston today and about the same in Westford. The Bston temp is a new record, breaking the old one of 62 in 1993 (so maybe this isn’t so unusual — but it sure seems that way.)

I hope we still have some when winter is over (if it ever comes!)
